Paradigm Shift For Marriage: Taking Religion and Guilt out of the Divorce Decision Process
by Karyn Payton
There are an unlimited numbers of books, seminars and retreats designed to salvage marriages and prevent Christians from committing the ultimate sin that God hates; divorce. Conversely, the focus of Christian marriage counseling has been to salvage the institution of marriage, not the individuals of that marriage. When you go to your church or pastor to get help with your relationship you are encouraged to attend things like Promise Keepers, A Weekend to Remember, Covenant Keepers, etc. These methods are obligatory practices "encouraging" partners to recommit to their vows by using scriptural interpretations, guilt, shame and coercion. This book is not that formula. The institution of marriage has never been God's Focus. God's focus is first on the health of the individual because healthy individuals make healthy relationships but obligated, guilty, and shamed people make bad relationships. Read on to discover how you've been lied to regarding God's design for marriage, the importance of your happiness, the happiness of your children and what love is supposed to look like.
